There is a wealth of easy to use, often free, apps available to help you map out an exercise plan. We’ve listed some of the most helpful Apps suitable for iPhone, Google Play and Windows here so you can use your smartphone to help you plan your exercise routine.

Many smartphones now come with a “Health” app which allows you to monitor your exercise as a “step count”. This is a great way of learning about the amount of physical activity you do every day, setting exercise goals and feeling that sense of achievement when you reach those goals.

  • Leave the car at home – cycle or walk instead
  • Park further away from your destination and walk the last part
  • Walk to colleagues at work instead of communicating via email or phone
  • Play active games with your peers, children and grandchildren such as tag or hide and seek
  • Start a hobby that involves physical activity – gardening, dancing, hill-walking
  • Meet a friend for a walk instead of a coffee and a sticky bun!
  • Walk at lunch-time
